300 Computer Printers to Be Given Away Saturday on First-Come, First- Serve Basis The Giveaway is Being Conducted By a Former Political Refugee.

By SANDY STRICKLAND

When he moved to Jacksonville, Corantin Talla was a Cameroon political refugee whose life had been threatened in his native country. Now he's a database consultant with a master's degree who oversees a printer giveaway program.

From 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, Talla will preside over his fourth giveaway since December with 300 printers being distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible organizations.

The printers are packed in cardboard boxes at Jax Storage Mall, 2825 St. Johns Bluff Road, on the Southside.

Social service agencies, churches, public and private schools and charitable and faith-based organizations are among those eligible.

Dell Computer donated the refurbished printers, which have printing, copying and scanning capabilities.

Ink cartridges and cabling are included.

Dell gave the printers to Gifts In Kind International, a charitable clearing house, for distribution to nonprofit groups in numerous cities.

Talla administers the program in this area for Gifts in Kind, through a charitable corporation that he founded in 2003 called Conscience du Cameroun Inc.

Talla, who resettled in Jacksonville in 1995 and has a master's in public administration from the University of North Florida, said he wanted to help the needy in his adopted community.

He would like to get computers from Dell to distribute to programs serving children, minorities and the handicapped.

Talla, a senior database consultant for Oracle, a software program, said he also wants to create programs to help immigrants from places such as Africa, as well as collect Christmas toys for children and clothing for the homeless.

He hopes to obtain funding to set up a computer training center for new immigrants, many of whom have never seen a computer.

His desire to help others goes back to his student days when he battled what he called widespread corruption.

While at the University of Yaounde in 1991, he founded the Cameroon Student Parliament to fight for students' rights, better academic conditions and democratic change in the Central African country. He was accused of trying to overthrow the government, arrested and had his life threatened, Talla said.

For the printer giveaway program to continue, Talla, who is paying storage fees himself, said he needs a permanent storage warehouse.

For information call 655-4540 or download the Dell printer application at www.conscienceducameroun.org and fax to 721-2637 or e- mail to tallaco@hotmail.com.

If unable to reach him, Talla said, recipients can bring the completed application form and proof of nonprofit status with them Saturday.sandy.strickland@jacksonville .com,               (904) 359-4128

CLARIFICATION LETTER

Dear all,

The public is hereby notified of a Change in the name of the Civil Society PlatForm for Democracy in Cameroon's name to DIASPORA CAMEROUNAISE POUR L'ALTERNANCE EN
2011/Cameroon Diaspora for Political Change-over in 2011. An Emergency Executive Meeting of PlatForm USA was held on April 19, 2008 following the change of Cameroon Constitution by the National Assembly to discuss
the structuring and deployment of Platform-USA throughout the United States. After agreeing that Platform-USA is not a branch of Yaoundé-based Civil Society Platform for Democracy in Cameroon and that Platform-USA should not attack with the intent to weaken other Diaspora Patriotic Organizations such as CODE and others as
HILAIRE KAMGA did on March 16, 2008.

  • It was resolved that KAMGA HILAIRE alias 'Dr. Kamga Hilaire', is trying to divide the patriotic and democratic forces in the Diaspora to advance his Selfish Interest and Private Agenda, distinct from the quest of the Cameroonians in the Diaspora to contribute strategically and financially to the advent of a Political Change-over in Cameroon in 2011.
  • It was decided that Platform-USA is not a tool for certain individuals to negotiate a ministerial position in Cameroon by brandishing their capacity to control a Diaspora organization.
  • Accordingly, HILAIRE KAMGA, the so-called spokesperson of the Civil Society Platform for Democracy in Cameroon has no connection whatsoever to Platform-USA and should not use Platform-USA, which is US 501(c)(4) organization to advance his selfish and obscure agenda in Cameroon.
  • Accordingly, the four individuals that held an illegal meeting of Platform-USA on May 10, 2008 following an order from Hilaire Kamga are suspended indefinitely from their positions in Platform-USA: Marcel Sime, is suspended from the position of Vice-coordinator; Eric Njungwe is suspended from the position of Spokesperson. We will not mention the other 2 participants here since they were never members of the executive of Platform-USA.
  • It was this decided that those suspended individuals have no authority to represent Platform-USA in any public or private forum or event. Any such representation will be ILLEGAL and FRAUDULENT since Diaspora Camerounaise pour L'alternance en 2011 dba Platform-USA is a registered USA 501(C)(4) organization.
  • Therefore it is forbidden to those suspended individuals which are inclined to mercantilism to engage in any asylum business by issuing any fraudulent support document under the name Platform-USA or they will face consequences of the full force of the USA laws

Mr. Jean-Marc Nken of PlatForm USA was unanimously elected as a Vice-Coordinator to replace the suspended Marcel Sime. The rest of Platform-USA team remains unchanged.

The Diaspora Camerounaise pour l'Alternance en 2011 (PlatForm USA) will remain an autonomous democratic institution and the most authoritative and legitimate coalition of organizations and concerned Cameroonians in the United States. PlatForm USA will therefore continue to advocate for real democratic change in Cameroon in 2001.

Lettre Interne no 3

  1. Adoption d'un nouveau nom pour notre organisation qui cadre bien avec notre mission;
  2. Création d'un organigramme de la plateforme-usa et élections et/ou nominations de certains membres aux postes de responsabilités;
  3. Création des commissions de travail, notamment la commission diplomatique en charge du lobbying internationale, la commission finance en charge de la mobilisation des moyens financiers et matériels pour soutenir nos actions multiformes, la commission juridique en charge des modules légaux de nos actions;
  4. Création d'une commission spéciale d'organisation du Forum International de la Diaspora Camerounaise aux USA;
  5. Rédaction d'une lettre ouverte de mobilisation et de galvanisation au peuple camerounais;

Platform-USA

Dear All:

Because it is incumbent upon all of you to understand the truth in the matter opposing Diaspora Camerounaise pour l'Alternance en 2011( Platform-USA) and Plateform de la Societe Camerounaise pour la Democratie, based in Yaounde, we are sending you this email to clarify the situation and encourage you to stay the course in our fight to topple the Biya regime before or in 2011.

In fact, contrary to the email circulated by Platform-Yaounde alleging that the April, 19 emergency meeting of Platform-USA, was in fact a meeting of Conscience du Cameroun, the executive committee of Platform-USA can assure you that the April 19 meeting was a platform-usa meeting and it took place at 7411 Riggs Road, Ste 20  Hyattsville Maryland 20783 and not in Bowie as this attached email is alluding to. More importantly, all members of Platform-USA were invited at that meeting via email and via a posting at the website http://constitutioncamerounaise.skyrock.com. At that meeting all the members present, unanimously voted to choose an alias for Platform-USA, which is Diaspora Camerounaise pour l'Alternance en 2011, in order to reflect the fact that Platform-USA is an autonomous Diaspora Movement which main goal is to organize, motivate Cameroonians in the USA to support the efforts of various civil society entities in Cameroun striving to bring about political change-over in Cameroun in 2011. This support could be in various forms such as rallies, like the ones platform-usa organized on March 6 and March 14 to prevent Biya from changing the constitution, lobbying with the American government and other international institutions that could help foster genuine democracy in Cameroon. Moreover, Platform-USA is committed to raise fund through individual memberships and more so through charitable organizations that are part of Platform-USA such as Conscience du Cameroun and other US-based not for profit organizations and associations that are willing to join the efforts of Platform-USA to bring about the political change-over in 2011 in Cameroon by any means necessary.

That said, it is important that we avoid distractive attitudes and focus on our main goal, which is to bring about a genuine democratic change-over in Cameroon in 2011 and propose new progressive alternatives to the people. For now, we have to let aside our personal ambitions and narcissism and look at the general interest of the Cameroonian People as a whole.

Finally, an evaluation meeting of Platform-USA is Convened at 5402 Richardsons Endeavor Drive, Bowie, MD 20720 on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 4 pm.

The agenda will include:

  • The presentation of platform-usa membership cards
  • Lobbying strategy
  • Election of new executive members and presentation of platform-usa complete executive bureau.
  • Letter of platform-usa to other Cameroon Diaspora movement for political change-over in Cameroon to call for a unity of Diaspora actions to topple Biya regime.
  • The organization of our upcoming town hall meeting of all Cameroon diaspora throughout the USA. Billy Mukoi is in charge of the organizing committee and will conduct town hall meeting logistical and strategic planning with his team, which includes Madam Emilie Monkam, Platform-USA assistant secretary for organization and sensitization.

    In the upcoming days , we will sign a joint communiqué with diapora organizations such as plateform-france, code, and other entities stating our common objectives for the betterment of Cameroon democracy.

Divided we fall. Together we succeed

It is important to remind you here that at the April 19, 2008 meeting new members were elected at the executive committee of platform-usa as such:

Jean- Mark Nkeng, Vice-Coordinator in charge of relations with other associations

Wilfried Njoko, Secretary for youth affairs

Billy Mukoi, Secretary for organization and sensitization

Emilie Mounkam, Assistant Secretary for organization and sensitization

Eric Roger Tagne, Secretatry in charge of Information Technology

Larry Eyong, Media advisor to the Coordinator.

Also, that day Eric Njungue called me, after the meeting, to ask if the meeting was still going on and I told him that it was already over.
